Rolex Presents Its All-new Sky-Dweller at BaselWorld 2012
At BaselWorld 2012, Rolex has unveiled a new timepiece called Sky-Dweller, an all-new timepiece with dual time zones and an annual calendar. The most obvious feature of this Sky-Dweller is an innovative annual calendar. It automatically differentiates between 30 and 31-day months. It only needs one adjustment per year on March 1st.
Apart from displaying date under a cyclops lens at the 3 o’clock like the traditional Rolex watches, this watch offers a function of showing the month by one of twelve apertures around the chapter ring. Besides, the Rolex Sky-Dweller shows the local time using the main hour hand. The second time zone is displayed by a rotating disc, which can be seen on the dial with a red triangle to mark.
This case measures 42 millimeters in diameter. There is a wide selection of cases, white gold, yellow gold or rose gold. The white and yellow gold cases are matched with a gold Oyster bracelet. The rose gold case, or what Rolex calls Everose, is fitted with an elegant brown leather strap with a rose gold clasp. All of them come with the Ring Command Bezel, which consists of no less than 60 components, allows the wearer to select any of three positions.
The Rolex Sky-Dweller is powered by an all new self-winding in-house movement, the Rolex caliber 9001, which is COSC certifited chronometer characterized with a Rolex Parachrom hairspring. This high-end movement composed of 40 jewels oscillates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and offers a power reserve of 72 hours. This movement is manipulated by the use of the bezel, which is a new feature of Rolex watches.
