Use A Lawn Fertilizer Feeder Automatically Or Manually

Everyone loves a lush lawn that’s free of weeds and feeding it doesn’t have to be as big of chore as you might think. There are several ways you can easily use a lawn fertilizer feeder automatically or manually.

There are many systems that simply hook a sprayer container onto your garden hose which you can than apply either using a sprinkler type system or by spraying by hand.

No hose system not to worry you can easily mix with water in your watering can or pain and apply. Always be sure to follow the mixing directions no matter which product you are using.

There are many excellent product choices on the market including products like Miracle Gro and Peters EZ Feed are just a couple of great choices. What’s most important is knowing what your lawn needs are.

Almost every fertilizer on the market is made up of nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium the three main nutrients in fertilizer. How much of each can be quickly determined by looking at the numbers on the front of the package. For example 4-1-2. The 4 would be the amount of nitrogen, the 1 the amount of phosphorus, and the 2 the amount of potassium.

Nitrogen is what makes your grass green and helps it grow. Phosphorus stimulates root growth and potassium promotes tolerance to disease and drought.

For your grass to grow and stay nice and green it requires a controlled release of nitrogen. Fertilizers high in nitrogen will green up very quickly but you also want a steady release for healthy growth.

Granule particle fertilizers are great and they work well with almost all feeder types. However if you prefer liquid fertilizers they are also an option.

Before you apply your fertilizer you need to determine the square footage of the lawn area. Fertilizers are usually sold marked with the area they are designed to cover. For example a bag may be marked as covering 6000 square feet.

You can calculate the square footage by multiplying width times length then subtract the square footage of your driveway, garage, house, and any other non-lawn areas.

Once you know your square footage you need to divide by the number of square feet the bag will do to determine the number of bags needed. So for example let’s say your yard is 36,000 square feet and the bag covers 6000 square feet, you will then need 6 bags.

Besides fertilizing your lawn fertilizing your plants is also a good idea. In a natural environment like a forest soils are rich in humus because of decaying twigs, leaves, and other plant materials. However the typical yard has soil very low in nutrients so providing your plants as well as your lawn with proper fertilizing is an excellent idea.

Proper care of your lawn and garden and you’ll be the envy of your neighborhood. And if your in a generous mood you can always share your secrets.

Just remember whether you use an automatic or manual lawn fertilizer feeder isn’t nearly as important as choosing the right fertilizer!
